Birthplace picks up three awards at prestigious Swansea Bay Tourism Awards

Imagine - you are standing in the most iconic bedroom in Welsh literature. The writing room where the greatest poet and writer of the 20th century first put pen to paper (and continued to produce over 2/3rds of his published output). At Number 5 you can do just that and much more - comfortable accommodation or just a house tour or a button bursting Edwardian Dinner at Dylan Thomas Birth Place in Swansea, Wales, UK...but first take a tour around the official Dylan Thomas Birth Place website

…so perfectly inspiring

Number 5 Cwmdonkin Drive in the Uplands suburb of Swansea - the second city of Wales - played a huge part in shaping the style and output of Dylan Thomas. Dylan was born in the front bedroom of the house in 1914 and continued to live at Number 5 until his parents moved out in 1937 of his "...Glamorgan villa..." overlooking the "… long and splendid curving shore…" of Swansea Bay. This is where the subject of the film Edge of Love and author of Under Milk Wood spent his formative years.

The Birth Place has been restored to its condition in 1914 when it was bought as a new house by the Thomas family.

We guarantee that there will be something that you will see or touch that will provide memories for a long time to come.

It's back to the days when the front room was "for best" and to the home of the upwardly mobile Thomas family. See the latest Youtube interpretation with beautiful music by Osian here

The house is open for guided tours making it a unique visitor attraction. Why not let us host your own special Dylan with Dylan event or read the latest dinner review? For a few very special people there is the chance for a self catering stay and you can even stay for just one night

Is 5 Cwmdonkin Drive for you?

We think that anyone and everyone can gain something from staying or visiting the house - you might be a family or business group wanting to get away for some peace and quiet to plan your latest strategy or even a small group of friends looking for a unique venue for a birthday or other celebration (we'll even lay on a traditionally cooked meal to an Edwardian menu).

To continue the literary tradition Dylan Thomas Birth Place has been one of the official author's residence for the University of Wales Dylan Thomas Prize since 2010 and will be again in 2014.
